A town is not complete without an independent bookshop, and we are supremely lucky to have a great one here in Falmouth, MA called Eight Cousins. Last week, Eight Cousins Books on Cape Cod suffered extreme damage from a broken pipe (think water and books — a bad combo!), and we joined many others who rushed to explore how to help.
Many of you are already avid fans of Eight Cousins, and we all know that in the internet era, independent bookstores are challenged — especially ones in seasonal communities! The owners of Eight Cousins have posted a detailed update on their website (see it here). And so it is especially important that we come together to support this business at this juncture.
The owners have asked that we purchase gift certificates to show our support. How easy is that? Buy now and come in for your books as soon as they are open again! What a great idea. If everyone who loves Eight Cousins Books simply pre-ordered one book ($20?), I am sure this would go a long way to helping them replace their lost inventory, carpets, shelving and more.
Falmouth is truly a special place, a place where where neighbors help each other out, where we all lean in to strengthen our community, where our communal joy of reading enriches all our lives. Please join Quicks Hole in supporting owners Sara, Eileen and Mary Fran as they rebuild the heart of our community — our precious local bookstore.
Thank you for reading this, and for considering supporting our neighbors at Eight Cousins Books.
