Mark your calendars for a weekend of fun in Woods Hole Sept 15-16th to celebrate the end of summer.   As part of a weekend of events called “The Sea Around Us” (which honors the legacy of Rachel Carson’s connection to Woods Hole), Quicks Hole and Landfall Restaurant bring you the “Beach Ball” — a block party of epic proportion with free music from Crooked Coast and Brothers Rye on the shells in Woods Hole from 2-6 pm on Sunday Sept 16th.

This family friendly “Take Back the Beach Ball” will feature beer donated by Long Trail Ale lawn games, awesome food and great FREE music.  100% of the proceeds from the generous donation of Long Trail Ale will be passed along to the Falmouth Water Stewards in hopes of building a bottle water refill station in Woods Hole.  Reducing single use plastics would surely be something that Rachel Carson might endorse!

Earlier that day, you might want to check out the “Anything But A Boat Race” which starts around noon.  There is still time to enter this exciting race if you are game to make a boat from anything BUT a boat materials.  Check out more info and application here.  Applications will be accepted until August 31.  Special thanks to our friends at NOAA for taking the lead to revitalize this race from the 1980’s.  Prizes include a $100 gift certificate to Quicks Hole, a free nights stay at the Woods Hole Inn and lots more!

Also, check out more family fun events happening on September 15th which include a new exhibit on Rachel Carson at the Woods Hole Museum, Splash Labs and family fun sponsored by WHOI on the Redfield Lawn, selfies with Rachel Carson played by local actress, storyteller and real-estate broker extraordinaire Annie Hart Cool, a free showing of “Acid Ocean” from the Woods Hole Film Festival, a Rachel Carson themed pub crawl in Woods Hole and much more!

Rain or shine, come on down to Woods Hole to check out the fun.  We share the beach all summer, now it’s time to take it back:)
